What I learned from your coaching was just as valuable as the hundreds of dollars I spent on “How-To” books on writing.

“Your ability to isolate the pivotal points of the novel and show how they can be improved is nothing short of astonishing.”

Does your child find writing a challenge?

These last few years have made it difficult for many children to keep up with the curriculum. If English is the subject your child is struggling with, I can help.

Tutoring options include:

  • Meeting* with you and your child to discuss your goals for a tutoring programme
  • Assessment of a selection of your child’s writing, and preparation of practice writing assignments
  • Marking of assignments and video feedback on your child’s work
  • Video or audio** lessons tailored to your child’s unique needs, focusing on aspects needing clarification and areas that can be improved
  • Coaching of writing skills including narrative, persuasive, and procedural texts, academic essays, and formal letter-writing.
  • Help with creativity and motivation to write.
  • Tutoring in English language conventions, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

*Video meetings (or email discussion) during “flu season”; option for in-person meetings in the warmer months
**Audio lessons are a possibility if you prefer to limit your child’s screen time.

I am a mother, author, editor, publisher, and writing coach. I have edited the work of 27 different authors with a combined total of over two million words. I’ve been in the publishing industry for nearly 20 years.

I can help your child, too.

Rates

Initial video meeting with you and your child, assessment of existing writing samples, and delivery of first lesson: $120

Thereafter $80 per lesson, inclusive of marking of assignments, feedback on assignments, delivery of video-based lesson based on previous assessments

Each lesson fee is payable in advance. Discounts are available for multiple-lesson packages.

A travel surcharge will apply for any in-person meetings and lessons in Ferntree Gully, Boronia, and surrounds.

Why Video Lessons?

No wasted lessons
The video lessons created for your child are yours to download and keep, giving you the opportunity to redo the lesson as often as you like. This is a huge benefit over in-person tutoring where a child might be having a day where they cannot concentrate as well as you would like and the content of the session is forgotten.
Fewer interruptions, less rescheduling
The pandemic situation makes in-person lessons prone to last-minute cancellation and rescheduling, forcing longer delays between lessons and disrupting family time and other commitments.
Work at your own pace
Instead of having to commit to a weekly schedule, your child can fit their assignments into the optimum time available, submitting them when they are ready, and receiving the next lesson shortly thereafter.
Cancel or pause anytime
If you're paying one lesson at a time, simply let me know that you no longer wish to continue. If you've purchased multiple lessons, you will be entitled to a pro-rata refund for lessons not yet delivered.
Going on holiday? Pause your lessons and pick them up again when you return.

“I can’t believe how helpful it is to have my work picked apart the way you’ve done it. What I learned from your coaching was just as valuable as the hundreds of dollars I spent on “How-To” books on writing.

“It’s one thing to review the examples from real world examples of literature in those books, but it’s entirely different and much more helpful to have the weaknesses of my own writing shown to me. I’m really glad I chose to use your service.”

“I am immensely grateful to you for the good, solid advice you have given. You understood perfectly the problem I’m having… I’m considering all the possibilities you suggested.

“Your comments concerning the prologue are spot on and easily put right; yet I would never, never have seen it had you not pointed it out. Thanks.

“Your ability to isolate the pivotal points of the novel and show how they can be improved is nothing short of astonishing.”

~ Michael Woods, author of The Lost Explorer (Booklocker, 2009) ~

“Elle has a real eye for plot and character motivation and can see clearly when you've gone astray. Her grammar is spot on as well. Thanks to her, my story The Rich People's School appeared in the prestigious U.K. based literary magazine, Mslexia [and has now been published in the collection of short stories In the Spirit of McPhineas Lata and Other Stories]. I highly recommend her as an editor.”

~ Lauri Kubuitsile - author of In the Spirit of McPhineas Lata and Other Stories, The Scattering, and The Vanishing ~

“Your work was exactly what I needed and I really appreciate your quick reply.

“Your comments showed a thorough professional job where you thought a great deal about the story and how it can be improved. It was obvious that you did not just skim over the words. You met my expectations for a thorough evaluation, with your promptness of reply and considerate feedback. I would highly recommend you and hope to adjust my work to your standards.”
